Soltec - Solvent Hazardous Waste Treatement - Step 1

Step 1: Safety assessment and classification

The first step in removing waste is to conduct an on-site assessment for our clients. Our technical laboratory and Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser (DGSA) team will carry out a comprehensive analysis to determine the safest, most sustainable and affordable method for treating your waste. In advance of transportation, the waste will be segregated, labelled and packaged to ensure full compliance with ADR regulations, Waste Collection Permit (WCP) regulations and EPA guidance.

Compliance and traceability

Our DGSA’s will provide you with information and guidance on the process and regulatory requirements. Throughout the process, you will have access to the Soltec Waste Tracker (SWT), which will allow you to monitor, in real time, the movement and treatment of each shipment from your site. Soltec will provide you with all the necessary certification and forms you will need in order to comply with statutory and industry regulations, including:

  • Waste Transfer forms
  • Certifications of waste acceptance and destruction when complete.
  • An audit trail and report is available through the SWT to assist with end of year AER and AIC inspection audit requirements as well as regulatory and corporate requirements.
We can also provide our customer base with environmental training, providing practical and safe strategies on best practice in waste management, enhancing staff awareness of dangerous goods and educating staff on spill response strategies.

Waste Packaging

At Soltec we supply our customers with a range of packaging to ensure that waste can be stored and transported safely. We provide customers with spill kits and bunds as well as providing drums, barrels and IBC’s to store chemicals considered to be hazardous.

Step 2: Secure Removal

The service we provide ensures that hazardous waste can be secured on site and removed safely to our facility for treatment. Once the waste has been safely secured on your site, it will then be transferred to our EPA licenced treatment facility using our fleet of specialised trucks.

Our facility is licenced to store and treat hazardous waste by the EPA licence ref P1093-01 and we are accredited to Quality Standard ISO 9001, Environmental Management System ISO14001 and Health and Safety Standard ISO45001. We have an excellent track record with our regulators. We achieve this through implementing processes and procedures that meet the industry standard requirements as well as international best practice.

Step 3: The treatment process

Once we have your waste accepted on site, our ISO certified laboratory will conduct a comprehensive analysis of the material to establish the most environmentally sound and efficient method to recover and recycle the waste. Soltec have a variety of treatment processes available onsite which include solvent distillation, fuel recovery and aerosol recycling. For other treatment methods, Soltec works with a range of European partners to provide specialised solutions.

Step 4: Producing sustainable products

As Ireland’s only waste solvent distillation provider, Soltec produces a range of recovered solvents which include:

  • Standard Paint Thinners
  • Premium Paint Thinners
  • Acetone
  • Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)
  • Xylene
  • Methanol

Other products we make include industrial fuels made from waste solvents unsuitable for distillation. This fuel provides a green alternative to the cement industry who traditionally use coal as their energy source.

Soltec’s mission is to provide economically viable and environmentally friendly solutions to our customers that allows them to dispose of their hazardous waste. We achieve this through applying innovative techniques to generate new products out of this waste that can then re-enter the economy. Our ability to turn what was once considered unrecoverable waste into products and services allows us to contribute to the circular economy and to the reduction of Ireland’s carbon emissions.
