Our History

Soltec was established in 1994 by local Mullingar business man, Michael Corcoran. It is a key provider of environmentally sound and sustainable solutions to businesses that produce hazardous and non-hazardous waste across Ireland. In fact, it is the only Irish-based provider of solvent distillation (recycling) services. It is one of only five companies that are licensed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to manage hazardous waste. Its clients include a wide range of businesses, ranging from multinational pharmaceutical companies to local Mullingar garages and bodyshops.

Soltec is a family-run local business that has invested 100% of its profits into the growth of its facilities and services. It is proud to provide employment to the local economy and has grown its staff from 2 employees in 1994 to 31 in 2024.

Soltec - History

In 2016, with growing demand for sustainable waste management, Soltec set about expanding its capacity and capabilities, breaking ground on a 10,000 square foot treatment facility and tank farm, located on a green-field five-acre site in IDA Business Park, Clonmore, Mullingar. The new facility, now fully in operation, can manage 20,000 tonnes of waste on an annual basis, an increase of 500% on previous capacity.

The treatment facility has been designed and built to the highest international standards for safety, environmental protection and efficiency. The project required an Industrial Emissions Licence from the Environmental Protection Agency alongside planning permission and other regulatory licensing.

The new facility is now the primary treatment, processing, storage and distribution facility for Soltec. It enables us to enhance the services we offer to our clients, and accept a variety of hazardous waste in larger quantities, including waste oils, solvents, corrosives and aerosols. The facility includes a laboratory, where incoming waste is sampled and analysed to identify the compounds and materials it contains. During the assessment, Soltec also identifies the optimal methods to safely and economically recover and recycle the waste into reusable material.

Soltec’s work helps to preserve the revenue of clients through the process of recycling and repurposing. It contributes to Ireland’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The United Nations has called on countries to provide environmentally sound management of hazardous waste and to reduce sending waste to other countries for treatment. Soltec plans to continue its mission to treat waste locally and sustainably for many years into the future.

Soltec - History

In 2026, Soltec entered a new chapter following the acquisition of a majority stake in Soltec (Ireland) Ltd by Tradebe, a global environmental services company. The investment marks Tradebe’s entry into the Irish environmental services market and brings Soltec into Tradebe’s Environmental Services business.

Founded by the Corcoran family, Soltec has built a strong reputation for providing transfer station operations, solvent recycling and waste management solutions to a wide range of industrial customers across Ireland. The business continues to operate from its facility in Mullingar, maintaining its focus on environmental protection, health and safety, quality and customer service.

Becoming part of Tradebe provides new opportunities to strengthen Soltec’s capabilities, create synergies across the UK and Irish markets and further develop integrated waste management and resource recovery solutions for customers.

While entering this new phase of growth, Soltec remains committed to the values and customer-focused approach that have shaped the business since its foundation in 1994.
